| Prospero, the lawful duke of Miland, is overthrown by his brother Antonio. Twelve years later Prospero seeks revenge on his enemies: He raises a storm which causes the ship to run aground near an island. Shakespeare’s tale can be regarded as a ‘thought experiment’: while the island is situated geographically between Tunis and Naples, notionally it’s a no-man’s-land, representing a wishful picture. However, at the end of the play Prospero returns to Miland and becomes the duke. | |
